Flesh N Bones is a search for all our family ancestors who left Cornwall to live across the world.
With an estimated 6 million people worldwide having Cornish ancestry due to historic mining emigration, tracing Cornish roots involves accessing specialized, localized records from the 19th-century "Cousin Jack" diaspora.
Key Migration Areas (The Diaspora)
Due to the decline of tin and copper mining in the mid-1800s, approximately 250,000 Cornish people emigrated.
• USA: Large concentrations in mining areas of Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan, and California, as well as the Midwest.
• Australia: Major settlements in South Australia (e.g., Moonta, known as "Little Cornwall").
• Canada: Significant migration to Ontario.
• South Africa: Many miners settled in the Witwatersrand area.
• Latin America: Notable communities in Mexico (Hidalgo).
